Project Lead the Way (STEM) Program

At Adams Elementary, every student from TK to 6th grade has the unique opportunity to explore our state-of-the-art STEM lab, guided by our dedicated STEM specialist. This program encourages students to embrace a design-thinking mindset through engaging activities, projects, and real-world problems. As they delve into hands-on experiences in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, students develop into creative, collaborative problem solvers, ready to tackle future challenges.

STEM Curriculum Overview

Throughout the school year, students will complete various modules, each tailored to their grade level and designed to build on previous knowledge and skills. Here’s a breakdown of the modules by grade:

Grade   Module 1 (Trimester 1)     Module 2 (Trimester 2)     Module 3 (Trimester 3)
TK   Living/Non-Living Systems     Floating and Sinking     Spatial Sense and Coding
K   Pushes and Pulls     Human Body     Exploring Design
1st   Designs Inspired by Nature     Light and Sound     Animal Adaptations
2nd   Properties of Matter     The Changing Earth     Form and Function
3rd   Forces and Interactions (VEX Go Kits)     Life Cycles     Science of Flight
4th   Energy Exploration (VEX Go Kits)     Organisms Structure and Function     Waves and Properties of Light
5th   Matter: Properties and Reactions     Flow of Matter and Energy     Earth’s Water and Interconnected Systems
6th   Infection Detection     Robotics and Automation (VEX IQ Kits)     Robotics and Automation Challenge (VEX IQ Kits)

Recognition and Achievement

To celebrate and encourage excellence in STEM, Adams Elementary will recognize a "STEM Student of the Month." This award highlights students who display a natural curiosity, a desire for deeper understanding, and the perseverance to see projects through to completion.

Support and Expansion

Our STEM program is further supported by a generous grant from Boston Scientific, which has enabled us to enhance our curriculum and provide more comprehensive resources for our students.
