Theme Five - Family Time
We are currently reading stories Family Time.  Our focus wall has a display of family photographs.   We are learning how to write personal narratives, opinion paragraphs, and "how-to" paragraphs.

Math

We are currently learning about measurement using inches, centimeters, feet, and yards.   We are also learning comparison measurements using cups, pints, liters, and gallons.   We resently finished our chaper on data and graphing.   Soon we will be learning about geometry and multiplication.

Social Studies

We are completing our current social studies unit  and are beginning the unit on Government soon.  Ask your son or daughter the following questions:

  • What is a diplomat?
  • What is a treaty?
  • What is the United Nations and why is the United Nations important?
  • What is "trade"?

Science

Second graders have been sharing their animal reports and projects.  The projects and reports will be on display for Open House in May.  We will be learning about whales soon and working on writing whale reports.  Students will research specific whales and will make them to scale in class.  We also are waiting for our silkworms to hatch soon.  The eggs should hatch by the end of April.  Students will have their own baby silkworm to raise in class.  They will grow and eventually turn into silkmoths and lay eggs for next year's students.
